Benny "Burle" Galloway
Benny “Burle” Galloway is a roots and bluegrass songwriter and musician whose songs have become staples in the jamgrass/progressive-bluegrass world. Long associated with the Colorado acoustic scene, he’s known for writing material that feels timeless—equal parts plainspoken and melodic—while still giving modern bands plenty of room to stretch. His writing has been embraced widely enough that Yonder Mountain String Band devoted an entire studio album to songs written or co-written by Galloway (Old Hands, 2003). 1
One of his best-known songs is “Poor Boy’s Delight,” written by Galloway and recorded by The Infamous Stringdusters on their 2007 debut Fork in the Road (with published composer credit listing him as the song’s writer). 2 Galloway has also fronted and collaborated on projects built around his songs—including The Wayword Sons, whose album Poor Boy’s Delight showcases his songwriting in a band setting. 3
