The Bluegrass Album (1981)

The Bluegrass Album is the debut release from the Bluegrass Album Band, a bluegrass supergroup led by Tony Rice and J.D. Crowe. It’s a tight, high-energy set built around sparkling instrumentation and those classic “high lonesome” harmonies.

The album focuses on traditional bluegrass material (many tied to foundational artists like Bill Monroe and Lester Flatt), but played with a polished, all-star precision. It’s widely regarded as a modern benchmark for straight-ahead, hard-driving bluegrass.
