Billy Strings (born William Lee Apostol, October 3, 1992) is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter whose high-energy flatpicking and improvisational approach have helped push bluegrass into a new era. Born in Lansing, Michigan, and associated with Ionia, Michigan, he is known for live performances that blend traditional bluegrass instrumentation with expansive, jam-minded exploration while keeping a driving pulse and a strong focus on songs. 1
